Progress Not Perfection
The mindset shift that let me stop restarting every Monday.

All-or-nothing thinking cost me years. One bad meal became a bad day, a bad day became a bad week, and then I was waiting for Monday. Then the Monday was a night shift, so I'd wait for the next one. I was very good at starting and very bad at continuing.
The reframe
A bad meal is one meal. The next one is normal. Nothing resets. There is nothing to restart. That sounds obvious written down, but living it meant giving up the idea of a perfect week, which was the only kind of week I'd ever planned for.
Discipline builds freedom. Not because I'm strict, but because I don't have to negotiate with myself anymore.
What discipline actually looks like
- The session is in the calendar before the shift is.
- The food is in the bag before the excuses are.
- The scales get looked at weekly, not after every meal.
- A missed session is a missed session, not evidence about who I am.
Why this matters more for shift workers
If your week is a rota, you will never get a clean run. Something always lands on the training day. If every disruption is a failure, you'll fail constantly and quit. If every disruption is just the next decision, you keep going. Progress, not perfection, is the only mindset that survives a rota.
I still have bad days. I just don't have bad months anymore.
Work harder. Live better.
